  Animated Iron Man: Outstanding!
Posted by: The Mighty Thor - 01-24-2007, 02:21 AM - Forum: Moving Pictures... - Replies (2)

We just sat down and watched the 3rd movie from Marvel's animation studio, and I have to say, I think its my favorite of the bunch so far. That could have much to do with the fact that I am not a die hard Shell Head fan. So for me, it didn't matter that thy switched around the origin a bit or altered Mandarin's stor. The essence was there, and for me that was all that mattered.

I could see how a long time fan of Tony's might have their complaints, but for me it was spot on. The story was crisp, fast paced and engaging. Not to mention that the animation and sfx were top notch. I don't think I could recommend this enough to my fellow comic fans.

And as a bonus, we get a great sneak peek at the upcoming Dr. Strange animated flick. Which again looks to depart from the comic origin, but in a really cool way I feel. I'm just not sure how I feel about Wong having hair. Ah well, that shall be a gripe for another day.

  Fables
Posted by: Enchantress - 01-17-2007, 07:15 PM - Forum: Other Realities... - Replies (4)

So, on a whim, I bought Thor the entire Fables graphic novel collection for the holidays. I just finished reading them myself and one thought crosses my mind...

WHY IN THE HELL DIDN'T I PICK THIS UP SOONER?

In this person's humble opinion, it's the best book I've read in years. I've never cared about characters as much as I have these and I've never been sucked into a book the way I have fables. Blew me away!

Much love for Bigby Wolf and Boy Blue... very much love. Rose Red is kick ass and I'm partial to Prince Charming for being the swarmy bastard he is. Oh, and Frau Totenkinder is just MESSED UP!

Anyone else checked this out besides Thor and myself???

Not the End of the World

Those of you here who know me know what a comics purist I am. When I heard that DC Comics would be publishing a new series based on Will Eisner's Spirit I thought for sure it was a sign of the apocalypse. There is no way they could maintain the quality, reputation and integrity of one of the world's greatest comics by one of the world's greatest comics creators.

Well, I refused to buy either the Batman/Spirit team-up or the first issue of the regular series, but a friend was so taken by them that he bought copies of them for me, insisting I give them a look. Begrudgingly I finally did.

I have to say that the integrity of Will Eisner's Spirit is more than intact, and the world is safe. Darwyn Cooke is the man. He has faithfully done justice to Denny Colt and respectfully brought him seamlessly into the 21st century. I was so impressed I am awaiting the second issue breathlessly.

  Some awesome news to share...
Posted by: SLVRSR4 - 01-07-2007, 10:14 PM - Forum: Hot Off The Presses... - Replies (6)

Hey guys, what I'm about to say doesn't have anything to do with comics, but I wanted to share it with as many of my friends (and of course family) as was possible. As of 8:30 last night, I asked Jonna to marry me. Of course she said yes, and I am now officially an engaged man. I proposed the old fashioned way which included asking her Father's permission and the whole getting down on one knee thing. Every one of my geeky tendencies tried to get me to do it in some sort of comic book way, but I was able to contain my inner geek long enough to do it in a way that she wouldn't laugh at. For those of you who aren't Jeremiah and Annette and don't know her, she is a huge comic book fan and plays just as much Heroclix as I do, so it wouldn't have come as a big suprise to her, but I still wanted to go with more of a traditional proposal. This is the first I've been able to get to an internet connection, so I've been just dying to tell you all. Thank you to all my family and friends on this site who have been there for us over the duration of our relationship. Now our REAL adventure gets to begin...

I wonder if she will let us be married by Spider-Man? ...Just kidding 8)
