Once again, I get to be the person with the official "Geek Obituary"

Saw this on Yahoo news this morning and was saddened. Never the biggest Star Trek fan, but he was always my favorite.

LOS ANGELES - James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and movies who responded to the command "Beam me up, Scotty," died Wednesday. He was 85.

Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. at his Redmond, Wash., home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said.

I have some great personal memories of Jimmy. I've met him 3 times and he was always such a nice guy.

Indianapolis, I think it was 98...I was dressed in full Klingon battle armor looking quite fine (ask Thor that's his termonology) and I hit the button for the elevator. When the doors opened I walked in and didn't realize someone was behind me.
Standing at the door panel was Jimmy Doohan. Glass of Scotch in hand.
I looked at him, the door panel and said "would it be in really bad taste to say "Beam me up?"
I got a laugh out of him, and a nice big hug and kiss on the cheek (thus I know he was drinking Scotch...all day!!!!!!!!).

He was such a really cool guy but his health had started to fail. It's a loss to the trek community, but it's memories like the one above that keep him alive in our hearts.
