What I can't believe is that we are actually seeing Prime Time tv commercials for it. Usually this sort of thing is stuck to Cartoon Network mid day kinda advertising.
Of course, it also got a PG13 rating, which J couldn't believe.
I could, I know Ultimate Hulk!

This being a strictly Marvel project, rather than having a middleman or separate production company, Marvel has taken the bull by the horns. One of their decrees has been to do mainstream advertising - and based on the ads we have all seen by now, they are keeping their word.

As for what could be a PG13 rating, I think it may be more in line with the violence than the randy Ultimate Hulk we all have in mind.

Just for the record, folks who have seen it are saying it's more close to the regular Avengers standing in for the Ultimates although it does loosely follow the same events depicted in Ultimates Volume One. The storyline is however reversed - first the alien invasion, then the Hulk.

Looking forward to this quite a bit. Next up on the shelf for Marvel animated DVDs are Iron Man and Dr. Strange, purported to be origin stories, and a second Ultimate Avengers, which won't follow from the comics.

Well, we finally made time tonight to sit down and watch it.

OH MY FRICKIN' GAAAWWDS!!!

I'll go into Inviso-text now to hide all the spoilerific stuff.
How awesome was that? Seriously, I've always had a school crush on Cap. After watching the movie, it's gotten 10 times worse.
J and I agree, Thor is a DRUNK. And what's with Iron Man getting slapped around like he's Wasp?
We were pleased all the way around with the film. To the point where we are completely excited to see the next installment.

Oh, and I loved Thor being called a "girl" constantly. Two thumbs way up from me there!
If you haven't seen it... SHAME ON YOU! Go see it!

The bride and I watched it in two installments. The first half-hour last night before we turned it off because it was soooo slow and boring (except for the Cap stuff). And then, begrudgingly, the rest earlier this evening, which surprisingly more than made up for the first part.

The last forty minutes are terrific, but what was up in the beginning? Also I ran into two different folks at my LCS this afternoon who had the same impression, and did the same thing - shutting it off half way.

What was good, was very good, but what was bad ... was unbearable. How many times and how long should it take Fury or Banner or Ross to walk around SHIELD headquarters??

SOrry guys, but I had it three days prior the release in the U.S./ 8) I thought it was great that Lions Gate Films had produced something like this. I never seen them do a animate film before. Over all I tohught it was great and can't wait for the second one to come out in June!

Was it Lions Gate that did it though? I thought the whole idea of these animation projects was to cut out the middleman so Marvel could maintain creative control over their characters and stories. As far as I know, this was solely a Marvel project, just distributed by Lions Gate. If I'm wrong, I would love some details.

P.S. Just curious, how did you get hold of an advance copy, on a weekend no less? Are you in the video business?

Sorry, guys. I hate to be one of those guys (I'm usually not) but If you've ever read the "Ultimates" comic, this cartoon was complete crap. By the time I was FINALLY done watching it, I put the DVD in the computer and played the "which avenger are you" game. After finding out that I was the Vision (I had always had a hunch, but needed proof) I put it back in the case to probably never be watched again. However, being the geek that I am, I'll definitely buy the 2nd movie which comes out in august. Hope it's better.
