The Star Wars movies
#1
Ok, after reading this.... http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=17252

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Lucas is yet again letting his KIDS write these movies.

Call me a purist, I call myself one. There are 3 *count them, 1..2...3.. thank you* Star Wars movies. This crap he has been producing over the past few years is nothing but fluff meant to add cash to his dwindling piles he's got stockyarded at Skywalker ranch.
:bashlamer:
that's me, beating George Lucas with a HUGE FRICKIN STICK!

Not only are the stories lame...completely lame...let's remember how almost every single background in Attack of the Clones was nothing but a CGI painting, and you could TELL IT! I remember sitting in the theater at one scene looking at the background of it and realizing there was ZERO dimension to it. They had a chair, painted onto a wall. I mean, come on already!
The titles keep getting hoakier too. "The Creeping Fear" Almost as bad as "Attack of the f*&)ing Clones."

And I'm mad...I'm very mad over this. George Lucas has taken a character I grew up adoring and turned him into a whining Backstreet Boy wannabe. Darth Vader is the baddest black man in the universe! I remember being 5 years old and having freaking NIGHTMARES about Darth Vader...George Lucas has ripped away that fear and beautiful black visage to reveal a punk ass white boy!:troops:
I'm not going to say that Hayden Christianson isn't talented, he's got some marginal talent, check out "My Life as a House." he was great in that, but in these films...ugh.

:brickwall:

I want my 5.00 back!

oh the humanity... it's amazing how someone who created the second best trilogy in movies (heh for me LOTR now takes the top spot, although SW is still the best original trilogy) can create a trio of films purporting to be prequels to the originals, which have very little of the joy and excitment generated by those originals. Ok there are some nice set pieces (Yoda's fight scene in AOTC has me cheering everytime) but the thru story seems to meander aimlessly as if it's trying to hard to please too many people rather than staying true to the originals - make a movie version of the old black and white sci-fi serials like flash gordon with thrills spills and cliffhangers. Lucas really should be ashamed of himself for what he has done to his own franchise. I'm not saying the new films are bad, but they could be so much better if he had stayed with the simple approach rather than trying to be too fancy.

just my tuppence worth

In my opinion, Lucas 'wrote' (for lack of a better word) all three prequels over a drunken weekend in 1998. But that's just my opinion. Also by my count, and I am keeping count, Lucas owes me $94.47 in rip-off charges for my time.

Ugh! I am so fed up with Lucas at this point.
And that's sad coming from me. I grew up on Star Wars and Hell, I've got autographed photos of Darth Vader and Boba Fett sitting on my desk here at work! I'm still die hard about the original movies. But this crap he's producing now is a smear against the goodness that has always been Star Wars.
There are people who crack me up thinking these new films are the be all end all of the Star Wars films. Apparently, they wouldn't know good cinema if it smacked them in the face, and hard. These movies are nothing but a showcase of CGI and hack acting with BackStreet Boy wannabes.
The stories are non existant and flat. At least with Episodes 4-6 you could actually TELL what the story was supposed to be. Remember how you almost wet your pants the first time you heard "Luke, I am your father." NO ONE expected that!!!

He'll never be able to recapture that sort of glory, and he needs to quit trying. It's purely a marketing scheme that I WILL NOT give in to.
I will not purchase the new DVDs, I will not go see the "Final" (until he needs more cash) installment of his "Saga".
I've lost all respect for someone whom I've spent my life respecting. It's like seeing someone you consider a Hero to you being convicted of murder or something. That's what I equate it to.

I agree with that final point, it seems that these last three movies are just a huge advert for what Industrial Light & Magic can do these days. But given their current stranglehold on the movie effects industry I don't think these movies needed to be that advert. Not to bash on over the same point again and again but look at Lord of the Rings, WETA Workshop in New Zealand managed to produce three movies worth off effects without those effects distracting you from the movie.. the first time I saw Gollum, I just accepted him as another character in the movie, he didn't seem out of place, and didn't distract from the story, similarly with the multitude of other effects, they were there to aid the storytelling not subsume it. Lucas could learn a lesson from Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor and the rest of the NEw Zealand Gang.
