Daredevil: The Man Without Fear
Posted by: The Mighty Thor - 04-12-2004, 11:19 AM - Forum: Hells Kitchen... - Replies (18)

I think its high time this forum had a thread about the toughest man to ever come out of the Kitchen. I haven't heard alot of talk about Daredevil online these days, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. Every month, Daredevil is one of my favorite books to read. Brian Michael Bendis has taken this book and made it his own. Together with Alex Maleev, he has created a gritty, film noir atmosphere, just dripping with realism.

If you aren't reading Daredevil, then you are doing the book, and yourself, a major disservice. This book reads as one gigantic story, that should probably never end. It has been crafted in such a way that makes me care for Matt Murdock, along with his friends and enemies, more than I do almost any other comic character. I would let BMB write Daredevil for the rest of his life if he wanted. It is that good. The current "King of Hell's Kitchen" story is three issues long now, and I am chomping at the bit to get more.

So, if you are looking for a good book to read this week, stop by your local comic shop, and give Daredevil a try. If you like dark stories, sort of like Batman without any of the flash, then you will love this! I couldn't recommend it more.

  Firefly in Pencils

I found this great Mark Texeira sketch some time ago and knew I wanted to make a AJ pic out of it. But, with it being pencil sketched, I decided to go a different route and show our Firefly without her wings.

Yes Rob, have heart failure, I started a Heroclix thread finally.

Ok, Time for a fangirl wet dream...I kicked so much ass tonight it wasn't even funny!
:dcbat: cause Batman with Kryptonite gloves ROCKS!
But, you're going to love this.. my team
Veteren Green Arrow
Unique Shadowcat
Unique Batman w/Kryptonite Gloves
Rookie Wonder Woman
Veteren Gambit
Veteren paramedic
Veteren Beast
Experienced Absorbing Man.

And would you believe, Shadowcat took down Veteren THING???!?!! But only after Batman did some outwitting and Absorbing Man worked him over like a little girl.
Yeah, I was up again E. Thor, Unique Vision, V Scarlet Witch, V. Hercules, V. Quicksilver, V Black Panther, V. Hooker, V. AIM Medic, E SHIELD Sniper from Jeremiah, and Balee had V. Thing, V. Human Torch, Unique Arwen, V. She Hulk, R. SHIELD Agent, E. Paramedic, and V. Sabertooth.

And the last 3 characters I had on the board were Batman, Absorbing Man, and Shadowcat. And I took NAMES BUDDY!

First time I've played since October...but it was fun. I can't get into playing all the time, it gets boring.

  Thor-Lord of Asgard/Lord of Earth
Posted by: Enchantress - 04-10-2004, 07:28 PM - Forum: Avengers Mansion... - Replies (3)

Ok, I've been reading Thor for a pretty long while now and I was dreading this whole Lord of Earth storyline. However, I've been pleasantly surprised. Thor has easily become one of my favorite books now.
Magni is great. I just started the Gods and Men storyline and seeing Magni weilding Mjoliner was tearjerker material. It's been entirely too long since Thor acted like Thor. Seeing his son become him has been great. Although I'm not really happy with Enchantress in this book right now. I like Enchantress the villain. Not "Enchantress, Thor's eye candy."
Loki as the Sorceror Supreme was definately not something I was expecting when I first started reading the book.
In Gods and Men-We see Sif has been banished from New Asgard. Having always liked Sif, I like seeing her still as herself. With so many of the other characters having changed or taken on new personalities, Sif was definately a breath of fresh air.
I'm becoming endeared to Magni more and more. He's like the old Thor I'm used to, and I like that.
New X-Men

Ok, I just suffered through the ending of "Here comes tomorrow."

I really don't want to go off on another Grant Morrison rant, but does this guy even have the capability to form a coherent sentence?
Not only was the story so boring it was beyond fathoming. I guess his "New X-Men" is just that. All the X-men he created (minus Wolverine which was thrown in purely for fanboy drool factor) were featured in this story. His version of Beast (which makes me sick to my stomach anymore to even look at.), all of *his* creations. Well sorry Grant! YOU SUCK!
You cannot expect to sell a book with the words "X-men" in it and not see some of the cast everyone grew up on. And this secondary mutantion crap is pure BS. It's Grant Morrison *The Almighty God of HACK WRITERS* twisting and perverting characters to his liking.
I felt sorry for Marc Silvestri for having to do the artwork on this piece of crap story. Marc is a great artist who's work should be complimented by a great story. And this wasn't it.
:bashlamer:
Confusedtonelamer:

I'm so glad that Grant Morrison is on his last legs with NXM.
I'd personally like to break both of them.
There is no way to explain the amount of disgust and complete anger I am feeling at this point over this book and the things Grant Morrison has done to it.
Maybe it's not the book, it's the characters. He expects you to give a damn about characters he created simply because *HE, THE ALMIGHTY GOD OF HACK WRITERS* created them.

Ok, I'm getting off the soapbox now before it spontaneously combusts!

  Marvel: New ICON Imprint Launched
Posted by: Local Hero - 04-09-2004, 08:54 PM - Forum: Hells Kitchen... - Replies (2)

Reported 09/04/2003
Source ComicsContinuum & ComicBookResources

Marvel Comics on Friday announced the launch of ICON, a new publishing imprint that will produce projects utilizing properties outside of the Marvel Universe.

ICON will launch with two titles currently published at Image Comics: Brian Bendis' Powers and David Mack's Kabuki. According to Marvel, the ICON imprint has been created with "a mandate to pursue both these creator and licensed projects, while maintaining the highest level of talent and the brands that readers have come to expect from Marvel."

Dan Buckley, Publisher, said, "We had been considering this kind of imprint for a while before talking to Brian and David. But once we did, everything fell into place. Starting with Brian and David on Powers and Kabuki really sets the standard for the whole line. We are very excited about this initiative, and are thrilled that Powers and Kabuki are launching it." Said Bendis: "We have always said that we have benefited so much from the generations of comic creators before us who worked so hard to pave the way for creator rights. We have had it so good and we are stunned that we get to help take it to the next level... Marvel's first true creator-owned imprint."

  Cable/Deadpool

Thor and I got the first issue of this simply as a "Let's see what it's like."
Ok, I laughed my ass off. Really, I did. The first issue was good enough I know I'm going to have to beg the Asgardian to let me get the rest of them.

Anyone else picked this up? I've got a deep love for Wade Wilson, and I love to see someone do him justice.

This is good and close..

  Making Movies: Black Widow?
Posted by: Local Hero - 04-08-2004, 07:13 AM - Forum: Moving Pictures... - Replies (4)

Reported 07/04/2004
Source IGN FilmForce

IGN FilmForce has learned that Lions Gate Entertainment is wasting no time in setting up its latest Marvel Comics film adaptation, Black Widow. We've been able to confirm that X-Men screenwriter David Hayter is in the early stages of negotiations to write and direct the espionage thriller.

Our source advised us that fans can expect Black Widow to be a "low budget" project set during the Cold War, which is in keeping with the Marvel character's comic book roots. Hayter's reps confirmed that he's in talks for the project but that "no deal" has been made yet and that Black Widow is "pretty far off" in the making. Black Widow would mark Hayter's feature film directing debut unless, of course, he finally makes Watchmen first.

The Marvel Directory reminds us that, after the death of her husband, the KGB trained Natasha Romanoff "to become the spy known as the Black Widow." She later "offered her services to SHIELD, which has made use of her talents on numerous occasions." Black Widow often tangled with Iron Man, and has been involved with both Daredevil and Hawkeye.

Things you want to see in Avengers!
Posted by: Enchantress - 04-07-2004, 11:21 PM - Forum: Avengers Mansion... - Replies (31)

Ok, anything goes!

Things I want to see in Avengers-

A all new villian that isn't some lame ass B-rate hack job thought up by Grant Morrison

Wanda to stand up and say "screw you guys! I'm dating Jennifer!"

I want to see them actually explain WHERE Quicksilver went. I mean, since he and Wanda are so close, and Wanda's on the team, you'd think she'd at least get a phone call or a letter from him sometimes???

I want to see some classic characters brought back out of the dustbin and used again! Retire some of the A-listers and bring some life into the characters that interested us so long ago!
