Legion of Super Heroes
Posted by: SLVRSR4 - 02-04-2005, 03:14 AM - Forum: The Daily Planet... - Replies (4)

I had read many articles in Wizard prior to the release of the brand new Legion comic by Mark Waid/ Barry Kitson. I also read Teen Titans who just recently had a crossover with the Legion, and that story was supposed to lead up to te relaunch of the Legion under it's new creative team. I decided "oh, what the hell! I like futuristic/space spanning storylines! I have also never read anything by Mark Waid that was very dissapointing." So I gave this book a try. Let's just say that if you're not reading this book, and you're looking for something different, you should probably try it out. Storytelling is excellent, and there is just enough of a mixture between teen angst, humor, and science fiction to make this book on my top ten list every time. In fact, I'm one of the biggest Marvel Zombies to walk the Earth, and I will read this book first every time. I can't help myself!

  Comics Uncovered - Version Update
Posted by: Local Hero - 01-18-2005, 09:34 PM - Forum: Comics Uncovered News & Announcements... - Replies (5)

I am currently in the process of upgrading the phpBB engine which runs the board to the latest version 2.0.11 I have put this off in the past as the board runs fairly smoothly on version 2.0.6 however to comply with our web host's security requirements and to ensure that we take advantage of the latest patches and updates, it is now necessary to upgrade.

As we are using a non standard theme on the site this will involve manually editing the code in the files. This is being done on an offline version of the site to ensure as little downtime as possible.

I intend to upload the completed code either this evening (18th) or tomorrow evening (19th) (thats evening in the UK). I do not envision any serious outages but please bear with us during this transition. If the board appears to be down, leave it a few hours and try again later in the day.

  Battlestar Galactica
Posted by: The Truth - 01-14-2005, 08:40 AM - Forum: Moving Pictures... - Replies (1)

Tonight at 8:30/7:30 central, the Sci-Fi channel will premeir the first episode of it's sci-fi "original" Battlestar Galactica, stemming from it's two part mini-series that originally aired some months ago, and which was reaired this week.

As a person who enjoys seeing new takes on old staples, I personally enjoyed the mini-series though to be completely honest I never watched the original so I have nothing to compare it two. But perhaps this is a good thing? Will the new Sci-Fi channel series allow new intiates to the Galactica universe to come into it clean and without expectations? Or will this simply allow people like me to mouth off about the series thinking I actually know what I'm talking about.

  Who's your favorite standup comedian?

Right now, I'm kinda tied between Mitch Hedberg and Steven Lynch.

I LOVE Steven Lynch's spoof on all those closet D&D geeks.

What movies have you seen recently?

I'm usually a big movie goer. But with a newborn baby, that's rather impossible....
But, I did manage to drive an hour away to go see Phantom of the Opera. Which was AWESOME! I loved it! So happy with that movie.

So, what movies have you seen recently? What movies do you reccommend?

  Assignment Great Britian
Posted by: The Watcher - 01-12-2005, 07:42 PM - Forum: Game: The Guardians of Twilight... - Replies (60)

It was a simple assignment. Go in, get the Scarecrow and turn him over to the Arkham Asylum crew that would be waiting.
So the morning after the night long celebration, the weird Bermuda Triangle incident, and Cameron's odd phone call dawned...and the group was off on the next assigment. Minus Cameron, who had felt compelled to go find out what Gus was up to.
The flight overseas was quick and for the most part uneventful. Landing at the coordinates Mulder had given them, they couldn't help but notice the huge castle that loomed over the next ridge.

  New Years Resolutions
Posted by: Enchantress - 01-04-2005, 03:43 PM - Forum: The Pub... - Replies (2)

Did anyone make any New Years Resolutions? Myself...no I didn't.
However, I am resolved to get more sleep. Lol

Imagine the superhero resolutions-

Wasp-I'm going to quit spree spending this year!

Rogue-This is the year I dye my hair!

Tony Stark-Really, I'm staying on the wagon this time.

Jean Grey-Ok, dead is dead, this time, I'm staying that way!

Daredevil-This year is the year everyone will hopefully forget I'm Matt Murdock and life will return to normal... as normal as it can be for a blind ambulance chasing gimp.

  War Games: The Aftermath
Posted by: The Truth - 12-31-2004, 01:46 AM - Forum: The Bat Cave... - Replies (2)

Well.....it's been a few weeks since the conclusion of the "War Games" event, and now we fans can start to see some of the repercussions of the arc. It promised to change things in a big way, and while the story itself may not have been the best, WG surely did change things. In a big way.

For those of you who don't know...
The War Game in question was a scenario set up by Batman to take over the whole of Gotham crime and unite it under a leader of his choosing, his plant in the criminal underworld Orpheus. Unfortunately, this plan was set in motion by Stephanie Brown without his knowledge, as her attempt to show Bats that she was indeed fit to be Robin. Without Batman's guiding hand to move things along in the proper way, things escalated into a gang war that consumed the city, and let our heroes over worked and vastly outnumbered.

By the time Batman finally figured things out and brought everything to a close, Stephanie Brown (my beloved Spoiler and Robin IV) and Orpheus(Batman's man on the inside) lay dead. The Batman himself, as well as Nightwing and Batgirl, had been seen on live television thus destroying his "urban legend" status, Tim Drake's personal life fell to peices folowing the deaths of several loved ones, the Penguin had been exiled, Nightwing had to come to grips with his involvement in the murder of his longtime foe Blockbuster, and Oracle's watchtower had been outted (mistakenly as the Batcave) and destroyed. And when the dust settled, Black Mask had established himself as the new Boss of Bosses in Gotham.

If that wasn't enough, Robin then decides to leave Gotham for Bludhaven in an attempt to distance himself from Batman for a while, which in turn prompts Bats to send Batgirl to work with him and keep an eye on him. Nightwing has seemingly given up his mantle and city, leaving Robin and Batgirl to deal with a 'Haven coming under the influence of Cobblepot, Batman has once again choosen to take on the city of Gotham alone, and Oracle is left without a workcenter from which to operate.
My thoughts on the after effects are a bit mixed. On the one hand, I'm enjoying the direction being attempted with Batgirl and Robin, as well as what's going on in Nightwing's title.....but on the other hand I would have loved to have seen all these characters in one place...one city.....after things had died down a bit and had a few talks with one another about their divergent methods and the events of the gang war.

Impacts from War Games can be felt in the books to be sure, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more verbal resolution between characters before the tides of change pulled them further down their particular paths.

(I apologise for the lack of Catwoman information but I haven't been following her adventures since the end of the arc.)
