So...my question being...In never getting to see Troy (I've heard I didn't miss much, but eh)...who's waiting for Alexander?

Me...I'm sorry...I adore Colin Ferrell and his horribly dirty mouth. I saw him on tv today and they had to run the live show 1 minute ahead to bleep out every other word.

My thing with this movie is Angeline Jolie is 11 months older than Colin Ferrell and is supposed to be Olympia, Alexander's MOTHER?

Oook...suspension of belief and all that....yeahhhh....

  Marvel: Black Panther Relaunch
Posted by: Local Hero - 11-21-2004, 12:20 PM - Forum: Hot Off The Presses... - Replies (6)

Marvel Comics has released a description of the new Black Panther series, by Reginald Hudlin and John Romita Jr.

Here¹s how Marvel describes the book:

[Image: blackpantherth.jpg]"The new series will create an adventure that is of epic proportions, returning to the origins of the Black Panther and his ancestral home of Wakanda, a fictional country in the heart of Africa. Wakanda has remained elusive to the modern world, despite its advancements in science and technology, as well as its vast resource of a precious fossil fuel, vibranium. Not only does Wakanda¹s independence block the total dominance of Africa by colonial powers, its cultural evolution has gone unchecked for centuries.

"It's from this exiting culture that Hudlin begins to tell the rich history of the Black Panther and bring him into prominence within the Marvel universe. The first six issues will recreate the legacy of the character for Marvel fans - his family history, his enemies, and his strength. The second six issues will begin to integrate the character into the Marvel universe. By the end of the second story, the Black Panther will have impacted every major character in the Marvel Universe.

"When Marvel first created the Black Panther, there was excitement and real magic in the character for me," Hudlin said. "The Black Panther is a king of a powerful yet untapped country, a son avenging his father's death, and a man educated in the finest schools. I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to bring back the character in a way that not only respects the original idea of Stan Lee, but also explores a side of his history that fans have never seen before."

"Reggie Hudlin¹s idea to bring back the Black Panther with a storyline that repositioned the character's role from that of a niche character to much larger role in the Marvel Universe was so fresh and exciting, we were all captivated with the idea," said Joe Quesada, editor-in chief. "In fact, we see the Black Panther taking on the same kind of prominence in the Marvel Universe as Spider-Man."

Marvel Sues 2 Cos. Over Role-Playing Game

By ALEX VEIGA

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Marvel Enterprises Inc. is suing two firms behind a computer superhero role-playing game it claims allows players to make virtual characters that are too similar to ``The Hulk,'' ``X-Men'' and other heroes in the comic book company's stable.

The lawsuit claims South Korea-based NCSoft Corp. and San Jose-based Cryptic Studios Inc. violated Marvel's trademark characters in their game ``City of Heroes.'' Marvel seeks unspecified damages and an injunction against the two companies to stop using its characters. The personal computer game enables players to design superheroes' look and abilities and then battle against other players' characters in a virtual city. Like similar so-called massively multiplayer role-playing games where thousands of players can be playing simultaneously at any given time, ``City of Heroes'' claims to offer a myriad of combinations so that no two players' characters are exactly the same.

But in its lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Marvel argues that the game's character creation engine easily allows players to design characters that are virtual copies of its own superheros, including ``The Incredible Hulk.'' The company singles out a game feature for creating ``a gigantic, green, 'science-based tanker'-type hero that moves and behaves nearly identically'' to the ``Hulk.'' Players can also create a ``mutant-based'' hero powers and a costume nearly identical to Marvel's ``Wolverine,'' according to the suit. The New York-based company also took issue with the ability of players to go so far as to name their superhero creations after Marvel comic book characters.

Marvel claims the firms' are responsible because the game is played on servers operated by the companies, raising the question of whether a company is responsible for their customers' actions on its computer server. Marvel also claims the companies have disrupted its ``existing and future'' business prospects for licensing its characters in video games similar to ``City of Heroes.''

An e-mail sent to NCSoft seeking comment was not immediately returned after-hours Thursday. No number was listed for Cryptic Studios. The Marvel lawsuit appears to be the first to raise this question in the scope of an online game. But early copyright infringement lawsuits brought by recording companies against pioneer file-sharing service Napster successfully argued Napster was liable for its customers' sharing of music online because they could do so only by accessing the company's computer system.

The argument can still be made that ``City of Heroes'' is only empowering users to the same degree that an establishment like Kinkos enables customers to make paper copies of copyrighted material, said Fred von Lohmann, senior intellectual property attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. ``Is it a violation of copyright to make up a character in the virtual world or is that fair use?'' von Lohmann said. ``This is really untested ground in the courts.''

Although they have had the recent addition of Beak...YEAUCH!...sorry, just a little vomitty taste in my mouth. The book has been able to stay in my good graces nonetheless. It is consistently good month in and month out, and the most recent issue explores exactly how a trivial thing can alter the course of an entire reality.
Their mission was to buy a cheese danish. You would have to read it for yourself, but in buying said danish, it averted an invasion from the Shi'ar!!!!! It was brilliantly written.
The upcoming story somehow involves Khulan Goth. I hated this character's recent appearance in Avengers, so I hope this story arc can redeem that somehow. I keep my fingers crossed.

  The Pulse
Posted by: SLVRSR4 - 11-10-2004, 06:46 PM - Forum: The Friendly Neighborhood... - Replies (1)

I don't know if I'm the only one on the face of the planet reading this book or not, but for all those who aren't, it is a non-Marvel MAX book that picks up where ALIAS left off. It doesn't quite have the same Noir feel to it that Alias did, but that's because the art changed from the very rough and gritty Michael Gaydos to the more colorful Mark Bagley. It has kind of lost it's hard hitting edge by switching over to a non MAX book, but really all it has lost is the gratuitous swearing. I think that in ALIAS, Bendis just wanted to see how many expletives he could fit per page, so it really didn't take away from the story at all when it became the Pulse. The story has been superb, and it is planted firmly in the roots of the Spider-verse, since Jessica Jones is now working at the Daily Bugle as a Columnist for a special "All super-hero" section of the paper. Her other coworkers that work on the column are Ben Urich and Kat Farell (a character from previous Marvel mini-series: Deadline.) It is a real pleasure to read, and I recommend it.
