  Which X-Villian needs a ravamping?
Posted by: Enchantress - 06-05-2004, 09:05 PM - Forum: 1407 Graymalkin Lane... - Replies (12)

We've all seen the "who's your favorite, Who's the most powerful." yadda yadda yadda until we're Nightcrawler blue.
My question poses, which X-Villian do you think needs a complete redo?

After recent events, I've have to say Magneto. Why you ask? Well, first off, he's dead. That explains that one. Secondly, I don't think many fans were happy seeing the Master of Magentism a drug addict.
As far as my favorite incarnations of Magento...I have to go with the X-men Evolution one personally.

  Black and White (Slight Weapon X Spoilers)
Posted by: The Truth - 06-05-2004, 07:29 AM - Forum: Hells Kitchen... - Replies (2)

Firstly...is anyone other than myself reading Weapon X? I mean seriously people...read this book. Superheroes and good guys are fun most of the time, but sometimes it's nice to see how the other half live. For me...it was Gen 13 and Dv8, but they went the way of the dinosaur. Now...it's Exiles and Weapon X. Granted, Exiles isn't set in continuity...but it is in fact continuity. And Weapon X.... Well it's just a fun book.

As for my Black and White subject title...I am of course referring to the latest issue of Weapon X. Fantomex, whom many of us have seen before, came face to face with the man known as Agent Zero. While I won't discuss exactly what happened, I will say that I personally enjoyed the chemistry portrayed between the two of them. If they were to get their own spin-off....I know it would be on my "To Buy" list.

But what about you? Are their any books you read regularly to form your own Dichotmy of flavors? An all out action book in concert with a non-violent, superpower void book? Something with deep drama that makes you think and feel, offset with a comedy?

Along with the little tidbit about Elektra (see the other thread) MTV News also had some other news on films in preproduction. Mark Steven Johnson, who wrote and directed 'Daredevil,' is in pre-production on Marvel's 'Ghost Rider,' which he'll head to Australia in November to shoot with Nicolas Cage in the lead. Johnson has an executive producer credit on 'Elektra.' ... On a related note, Marvel's long-awaited 'Fantastic Four' has begun pre-production work just a short drive from the 'Elektra' set in Vancouver. Tim Story ('Barbershop') will direct."

  Making Movies: Y - The Last Man

Screenwriter Jeff Vintar told Sci Fi Wire that he is adaptating Brian K. Vaughan's comic book "Y: The Last Man" for the big screen. His biggest issue now is crafting a finite movie ending for an ongoing comic series. "Brian probably only has a vague idea of how it's going to end, because he's got three more years writing it," Vintar said. "The world may not be saved. The men are not going to come back. [Like] in a zombie film, you know the zombies are not going to go away, and yet at the end of the film, you want to feel like you've reached a dramatic high. It's not always easy. Not every film does it." David Goyer is attached to produce the film, but allegedly is staying out of the creative way. "Coming from the writing side, I think that he has been where [I'm] sitting before, and he has gone out of his way to not get in the way," Vintar said. "He's there. He's offered many times, [saying] 'I'm here whenever you need me.' But he's very accommodating, very much hands off, which is nice. I appreciate that."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have really enjoyed the book. It will definitely be interesting to see how they handle a film version. I figure they could go for a planet of the apes (classic) type ending where it's open enough for a sequel (and to allow Mr Vaughan to write the books without his toes being stepped on) but providing closure to the story covered in the movie.
  DC: Meridian & NYX's Middleton Signs Exclusive Agreement
Acclaimed artist Joshua Middleton, best known for his work on NYX and Meridian, has signed a 2-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics.
"In the short time that I've gotten to know the folks at DC, I have been nothing but pleased at the professionalism and good sense they have demonstrated," says Middleton. "Straightaway we were on the same page, and crafting a long-term relationship was extremely easy due to my confidence in DC's vision and their understanding of my work and goals as an artist. It is genuinely inspiring to feel so embraced, and I can hardly put into words how excited I am to put pencil to paper in such a well-rounded and creatively rewarding atmosphere. Without wasting a second, DC has managed to put together a wonderful project that affords me the ability to complete art of the utmost quality by playing to my strengths, but at the same time will challenge me to new artistic heights. It will be bigger, better, and more fantastic than anything I've ever done, and I hope readers will be surprised and excited by it. I certainly am!"
"We're ecstatic to have Josh come on board with DC," says Dan DiDio, DC's VP - Editorial. "And we are anxious to see him apply his unique style and vision to our top characters."
DC will announce Middleton's upcoming projects at a later date.
  DC: Infantino Sues for Flash/Batgirl
Posted by: Local Hero - 06-04-2004, 09:03 PM - Forum: The Daily Planet... - Replies (5)
Posted June 4, 2004
Source Newsday
By 1956 The Flash, 26, was slowing down, when an editor at DC Comics commissioned Carmine Infantino to breathe some life into the speedy superhero, a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court says.
Infantino, a 79-year-old New York illustrator, says he revived the declining character, originally created in 1940, and now he wants a federal judge to declare that he, not DC parent Time Warner Inc., owns the rights to the fastest man alive. Infantino says in his suit that he's also the creator of Batgirl, and he wants a court to acknowledge that too. He filed the copyright claim yesterday against Time Warner, the world's largest media company, and DC Comics, where he was once president. Infantino is seeking monetary damages and a ruling that he owns The Flash, Batgirl and other characters he says he created from 1943 to 1967.
The suit comes as media companies increasingly turn to comic book characters for films and other works. This month, Sony Corp. will release "Spider-Man 2," the sequel to its $800-million blockbuster."Obviously the characters have much more commercial value these days," said Infantino's lawyer, Nicholas Perrella. "Look at the Spider-Man movies." A spokesman for DC Comics didn't have an immediate comment. Shares in Manhattan-based Time Warner fell 12 cents, to close at $17.05.
Infantino, who's won numerous awards for his illustrating, says his most famous character is the second incarnation of The Flash, whose real name is Barry Allen. He says he developed the character while working as a freelance artist. The Flash was recreated by Infantino in 1956, when Allen, a police scientist, was splashed with chemicals and struck by lightning, leaving him with super-human speed, according to the Web site Comic Art & Graffix Gallery. Infantino also takes credit for reviving the Batman comic in the 1960s, by giving the crime-fighter a new look and creating his fellow superhero, Batgirl. Infantino subsequently joined DC Comics, becoming president in 1973, the suit says. Perrella said Infantino gave DC Comics permission to use The Flash in comic books, not in other media.
This is the third known case of creators (or their survivors) have sought to regain the rights to properties created for DC: Joanne Siegel, widow of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel sought 50% of the rights to the character (reportedly, despite ongoing negotiations, no settlement has been reached); Green Lantern creator Marty Nodell sought the rights to that character (and reportedly reached a settlement with DC); and now Infantino.
