This is a piece I did in College. Looking back, it looks only half done, but at the same time makes me want to get back into watercolor. I really love the medium, and think it can provide for a really cool look. Hey, it works for Alex Ross.

If I can find my inspiration, I may just have to pick up my brushes again soom.

Just a quick introduction here. I'm Glenn, and Comic Widows

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.comicwidows.com">http://www.comicwidows.com</a><!-- m -->

is my baby. It's a comic review site that reviews comic books in all forms of the media: mainstream, independent, web, manga and anime, print, film, television, gaming, toys, you name it - I think we got it covered.

I want to send out a big thank you to Local, Enchantress and Thor here at Comics Uncovered, all who have been active at Comic Widows, for allowing bandwidth here for this discussion forum. I hope we can put it to good use. Big Grin

The new issue is currently up. Please check it out and we will be accepting submissions for the next issue. The deadline is April 2nd which will be the beginning of our new bi-weekly schedule. Submissions can be sent to:

<!-- e --><a href="mailto:comics@comicwidows.com">comics@comicwidows.com</a><!-- e -->

Hope to see you all there or here! Big Grin

  Just some small Banners I made

Yup. Heard about the site and liked the idea so I decided to make a few small banners to maybe help people advertise and promote the site. I would have made more....but alas. My trail version of photoshop ran out.

But please...let me know what you think, good or bad. Critiques are always welcome.

Hot Dogs with a God

I may be a bit behind, but I just read 'Chasing a Dark Shadow' part 2, and sorta liked it...sorta didn't. It was an odd 2 part story that felt somewhat rushed. While I like a good one or two issue story, I thik this one could have been longer.

I liked the overall dynamic of the story. As Spidey himself said, his stories are leaning a bit more to the magical here lately. That is an area I think is pretty cool for him to be headed. And this issue certainly set up some cool things for the future. Where do you think JMS is going with this? Will he revisit this story soon? I hope so...for it seems there is alot more story to be told.

  Marvel Knights Spider-Man

Ok, so the wall crawler, seemingly along with every other Marvel character is getting an MK imprint book. What do you think about this? In my opinion, it is not such an afront as the Ultimate treatment Marvel is giving everyone, but is it a good thing? Should the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man be given a title that leans to the more mature?

Personally, I feel that there is something good, clean and wholesome about the wall crawler that shouldn't be tampered with. I realize this day and age, by definition, leans a bit more to the darker side of things, but it just doesn't seem to fit with Spidey. Ghost Rider, Daredevil and Punisher belong under this imprint. But Spider-man? Or even Captain America? It just seems wrong.

  Hellboy - aka: How Ron Pearlman is going to rock your world.
Posted by: The Mighty Thor - 03-20-2004, 01:38 PM - Forum: Moving Pictures... - Replies (8)

By this point, I'm sure most of you have seen the commercials and the trailers, and I am going to assume that most of you have the same opinion as me...this movie is going to be great. The effects and make up look better than anything I've seen in a comic book film to date. X2 was great, but I think Hellboy is going to blow it away.

Now, I'll admit, I've never read a Hellboy comic. But I have admired the story and unmistakable Mike Mignola style from afar, and waited with baited breath for this movie to premiere. Maybe my lack of knowledge on the subject will help me enjoy the movie more, the same way it did when I saw The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I hadn't read that when I saw the movie either, and obviously enjoyed it much more than your average fanboy did.

So, how do you feel? Will it live up to the hype? Will it be great? I want to know your opinions here. But don't give away any spoilers please...I want to enjoy the film when I see it...skip to the end, tell me how to kill it.

  Raven House

From Crossgen.com

CrossGen will explore another popular genre in the upcoming gothic thriller RAVEN HOUSE. The creative team of writer Chuck Dixon and artist Leonardo Manco (Apache Skies, Hellblazer) will act as readers’ tour guides through shadowed hallways, hidden passages, and shattered secrets.

“Featuring a gutsy young heroine, a tragic romance, and dark deeds done at the crossroads, RAVEN HOUSE is a creepy gothic thriller in the grand tradition of the Brontés and Henry James,” Dixon stated. “Summoned to England’s wild Cornish coastline, beautiful Meredith Park arrives at the bleak and remote Raven House to serve as a governess for the son of the brooding and handsome Lord Dalamar. But the manor and all around it seem to lie under a curse… and Meredith is compelled to uncover the many long-buried secrets she finds there. Perfectly cast for this type of story, Leonardo Manco is eating the setting up. Every panel drips with uneasiness and dread.”

“Chuck’s exceptional vision for RAVEN HOUSE includes an atmosphere and storytelling comparable to the best of Edgar Allen Poe’s tales, such as The Fall of the House of Usher,” Manco said. “Because the fantastic story goes beyond conventional comic book limits, I’m striving to deliver a completely different and fascinating vision.”

“Macabre mysteries, forbidden passion, spooky surprises…RAVEN HOUSEoozes with the haunting mood that runs through gothic stories from Wuthering Heights to Dark Shadows to the novels of Victoria Holt. Chuck and Leonardo are creating a delectably dark world that will wrap you in its chilling embrace.” CrossGen’s Sr. V.P. of Publishing Bill Rosemann added.

“We’re doing what we do best: exploring genres not often seen in modern comic books,” Dixon said. “There’s a great big world of fiction out there and we want to reach audiences that crave these different types of stories.”

RAVEN HOUSE #1 is scheduled to reach comic book stores in June.

Ok...I've always been a fan of Crossgen's "Non Superhero" Books. It shows that comics can be diverse in many ways and still be successful.
But since the untimely demise of Ruse *which was AWESOME!!!* I'm one book short on my Crossgen monthly list, and I think Raven House may be the book to pick up.
