Young Avengers: Kree-Skull war reloaded
Posted by: Rhapsody's Scream - 02-08-2006, 11:27 PM - Forum: Avengers Mansion... - Replies (3)

Well, after a short hiatus, Young Avengers #10 finally came out today... and was I surprised by the events in it!

The first part of this is a summary of the issue and the second are my thoughts and things they've hinted at which we could find out in future issues.
first, the YA (minus Teddy) arrives at Stark Tower to ask for help after the Super Skrull killed Teddy's mom and kidnapped the shape-shifter. They're not there, but Jarvis goes to make a phone call while they "convince" Vision to come with them... since they're not powerful enough to fight the SS, they locate others from the Avengers fail-safe program... including a teenager who can accelerate things on an atomic level making him a formidable speedster as well as giving him an explosive power. But this new kid is in a correctional facility after he blew up his school - accidentally - so they get him out of there and go find Teddy. Meanwhile, Teddy learns a lot more about his past... Apparently he was the son of the unmarried Skrull princess with an unknown father and his mother sent him and his bodyguard (he thought she was his human mom) away to save them. In the end of the book, the Kree army arrives and kill(?) the SS... telling him they'll do anything to protect one of their own...

Which makes me think that Captain Mar-Vell and the skrull princess might have done the nasty and Teddy could very well be their son! Next issue, we learn more about that and about Wiccan's origins... I'm thinking the new kid, who is a blonde copy of Wiccan might have something to do with it... could he (a magic-user) and the new guy (speedster) be related to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver? especially since they look like TWINS except one has dark hair and the other white/blonde hair....
I really liked it, it's darker than the first ark, but the storyline is as good as that ark... I was scared when the first story arc ended because the second story arc was nowhere as good... I'm quite pleased that this arc is so good. Now, if only Kate could come up with a codename...

and if most of them could get good codenames to replace the crappy ones they currently have

  A new take on Marvel-X
Posted by: Guest - 01-18-2006, 01:48 AM - Forum: The Bestseller Club - Shhh... - Replies (2)

This is my story of the marvel universe. It runa along the A.O.A storyline and the current The End storyline. I'll be useing characters new and old and even some made up ones that my gameing crew is useing. Also, this is the same story that my gameing group is playing with the CLassic Marvel Role playing System.
I'll be useing some things from movies but I WILL NOT use characters from other comic universes.

I ask two things...

1: I have just entered my freshman year at college and I have basically swamped myself and am stuck stareing at a computer screen nine hours a day, so if I make any mistakes, please forgive me. Tongue

2: If you have a comment or anything, please do not post it in the story board, to me it takes away from the story, so please post it here. Smile

------------------------

In the year 2005, violence between the mutant group, formerly outlaws, The X-Men have almost come to a stand still and the X-Corp is created. This is a world wide foundation in which tries to help the ever growning mutant population on earth. Xaviers School for gifted Youngsters is teeming with new mutants who have come there to learn to use there powers. A total of two hundred and eighty six people occupy the school.

December 6th, 2005, about twenty one hundred hours, American satalites pick up a Unidentified Moveing Object approaching from behind the moon. After four hours of obserbing this U.F.O the object is approximately half a mile in hight, three miles in length, and a mile across. This object will hit the High Earth Orbit in a matter of of two hours.

December 6th, 2005, twenty one hundred thirty. Avengers Mansion, the Four Freedoms plaza and Xaviers school of gifted Youngsters is placed under major assault of villians untied. Entery is gained on all fronts of all three places and simultaneously mini anti-matter bombs go off destrying New York and surrounding places. People in Michigan could see the fire balls erupting.

December 7th, 2005, 00:00. the U.F.O. enters Earth's obit and begins it's decent. Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. have already deduced where it was heading puts the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier in the direct path of the U.F.O. It's heading...straight for Washington D.C. Col. Fury puts out the call to all reserve Avengers and tries to raise any other availible Hero's. Many arraive to the helicarrier but Fury knows that it is not enough.

December 7th, 2005, 03:00, U.S. Military forces and surviveing Hero's who can manage, engage the U.F.O. As they do, the ship begins to spew out it's own humanoid forces. Before the engagement begins the hero known as Nova says "My God, it's like watching a swarm of locusts!"
On the ground, Hero's try to repulse the attack by the armored humanoinds, but this time there's another surprise. The mutant formerly named Sabertooth now named Death leads the fray against the hero's and is followed by Famine, Pestilence, and War.

December 7th, 2005, 16:18. The S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier is gone and with it Col. Nick Fury, and eighty percent of S.H.I.E.L.D's operating strength. Hero's who attended the defense of America's east coast either died or were captured never to be seen again, the U.F.O. approachs untouched by the battle and halts over the Capital with it's remaining humaniod forces and a message is sent out all across the world. The message was this "ONLY THE STRONG SHALL SURVIVE!"

Seriously, I don't want to be lead on here. I love Clint Barton as much as I do a certain Asgardian.

But, since the only Avengers title I'm reading is New Avengers, can anyone tell me if the rumors I've heard about Hawkeye being alive are true? or am I just being screwed with here>?

So the House of M is done and over, and I'm not picking up any of the follow up books.

Son of M looks promising. But then again I've always had a thing for Pietro.

Anyone care to delve into what's happening in the fallout of the House of M?

  Wildstorm Lives Again!!!
Posted by: The Truth - 12-03-2005, 10:24 PM - Forum: Image... - Replies (1)

Majestic. WildCATS: Nemesis. Captain Atom: Armageddon. Gen 13 (2006).

Planetary and the Authority have both held their own in the absence of a large line of other titles to help flesh out their universe....but they're coming back. Gen 13 has been annouced for fall of 2006 featuring the original cast of Fairchild, Freefall, Grunge, Burnout, and Rainmaker and that news alone was enough to make me care about Wildstorm again. However, I've also been reading Majestic. And WildCATS Nemesis. As well as Captain Atom: Armegeddon.

The Majestic character has always been interesting to me. He was first introduced (in his ongoing solo series) as being a homage to Silver Age Superman. What kind of kid doesn't get excited about that? And now in his new ongoing, he seems to be holding up that tradition. In his first issue back in the WSU...he finds his planet completely void of animal life, as if every person, mammal, reptile, and fish just suddenly up and left. In his second story arc, he finds himself dealing with the Daemonites, a foe he'd thought long defeated. Currently.....he's kicking ass and taking names as only Majestic can. And damn is it good to see him.

The current WildCATs mini deals with another Kheribum. One both Majestic and Zealot know all two well. Her real name is Charis, though she's been called Nemesis for as long as she can remember. Mr. Majestic and the CATS think sh'e a villain. That's she's up to no good. And her actions...well...let's just say I'm not completely convinced she's on the up and up. And while I normally don't pay attention to such things, conversations with the likes of our own The Mighty Thor have given me a new appreciation for artists and I must say that Talent Caldwell is doing a tremendous job on this title.

And then there's the Captain. I wasn't a Captain Atom fan until Justice League Unlimited. And even then I knew precious little about the man. Then I read a little bit of him in the pages of Batman/Superman, and it's good. He seems good. I go out into the depths of the internets (all 3 of them!) and try to dig up some info on the man who was once part of the JL with Captain Marvel, Max Lord, and the Blue and Gold express. I find myself starting to think that's he's an underappreciated character for all that he can do and all trhe potential he holds.

Then I see him in Wildstorm.

And I become a fanboy.

Now, like so many other fans of comics now a days, I've become a bit jaded with the industry following one to many retcons, bad stories, and terrible artists. But every once in a while someone will come along and write an issue, or rarer yet, a single line of dialogue, that validates and entire story arc for me. Not only have issues 1 and two een that good in my opinion...but they've both had that one line that's made me say....."Wow...."

In issue one we see Captain Atom square off against Mr Majestic himself, and while Majestic gets the upper hand early in the fight, Atom finally says to hell with it and puts an end to the conflict. After getting punched in the face one time to many while trying to figure out who Majestic is and why they are fighting he thinks...
You know what? I don't care anymore. That's enough.

And after blasting Majestros point blank, stopping his assault dead, he stands over him and says...

"My Name is Captain Atom. As in A-Bomb... As in Nuclear Fission... As in... The End of the World

At which point he bashes Majestic down through the city street, ending the fight. And while this in and of itself brought a smile to my face, it was the reaction of the people standing by that let me know this mini series is going to be something to read. Something important to Captain Atom as a character. It was that reaction that led him to say in issue 2...

Alone. A planet full of people. Billions of them. And I've never felt so alone.

Later he thinks to himself my favorite line of the issue....

I'm lost. I'm God knows where. And I'm alone. And to top it all off, for no good reason.....I'm Gold.

Big Grin

New Avengers: A Year in Review
Posted by: The Truth - 12-03-2005, 09:49 PM - Forum: Avengers Mansion... - Replies (2)

Also Know As: "Damn you Bendis!! DAMN YOOOOOUUUUUUUU!!!!"

But I'll get to that in a moment.

First things first, allow me to put on the table the fact that I was not an Avenger's fan. I don't mean to say I disliked the characters or stories or anything like that, but merely that I did not buy the series. As such, If I as any point compare the New Avengers to the orignal ones, forgive me as I most likely as talking out of my ass....

That being said....I liked New Avengers. I really did. It was a concept I was familiar with, a group of powerful heroes coming together to do what they felt was right and to try to help humanity. It started off strong. Finch's art is nice and clean (even if he does tend to clone panels every issue) all the characters seemed for the most part in character, and as a whole it's been an entertaining read so far. I'm going to continue to buy it....despite a few things that have just pissed me off to no end.

But back to the good. I know people knock Bendis and his dialogue, but the man can actually be rather funny when handling the proper characters and dynamics between them. I believe he once said he couldn't wait to right Wolverine and Spiderman together because they flowed so nicely together. Instead I'm finding it's Luke Cage and Spiderman who are stealing the show. Spidey has some great one liners in this series, and Cage is the perfect straight man for this style of comedy.

Aside from the humor, the stories themselves are well put together. I was actually curious to find out about Sentry and Ronin (whom I'll discuss later.....friggin Bendis....) and the dangling subplot of a possible traitor in their midsts is well played....for the most part. Not only that, but it's giving characters like Cage and Spiderwoman the type of spotlight they've never really had in recent years, and is serving, at least peripherally, as a means of character growth for some of these characters.

Now then....onto what I don't like. (Damn you Bendis! I would have kissed your ass throughout this post if it hadn't been for issue 13). My first, main, and perhaps only gripe with the NA is it's roster. Captain America and Iron Man are mainstays. Thor is as well, but given his situation I understand why he's not around. I love that Captain America and Iron Man are still at the forefront, but some of these other guys? I was under the impression that the Avengers were supposed to be Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Granted, perhaps that's not the idea behind the New Avengers, but if so....please let me know this. Why? Because as much as I love Luke Cage....earth's mightiest he ain't. Spiderman? Tremendous hero. Icon. Childhood favorite. You know what? I'll let Spidey and Superm....ummm...Sentry.....slide. Spiderwoman and Ronin?

DAMN YOU BENDIS!!!

Ahem.... I mean. Spiderwoman seems to be a great character under the guidance of Brian's pen, but I'm not sure she'd be the first to come to mind when it came to reforming the Avengers. Personally, I think Phyla Vell would have been a good choice...but I digress. But even with Spiderwoman's lack of A-List standing, I'm willing to give her a chance. I'd never heard of the likes of Wasp or Giant Man before the original Avengers, but it wasn't to long after I got into comics that I knew who they were...without even having to pick up an issue.

Now Ronin on the other hand...... Damn you Bendis.... SPOILERS AHEAD by the way. I'll box them in a moment but first let me say this. Ronin....is not Daredevil. So you can't say he lied about that. Hell...I'll even go so far as to let you know it ain't Matt Murdock in any way shape or form. That's not really a spoiler becauce Bendis has been saying that since issue one. The spoiler however is Ronin's real identity. It turns out Ronin is none other than
SECONDARY WARNING. Not only will this box contain spoilers, but harsh language and possible Bendis bashing as well. You've been warned dammit!!

Ronin is.....ECHO!!! What the fuzzy! Huh? How? WHYYYYYYYYY? GAAAAHHHHH!!!!

I stayed away from the spoilers. I tried to stay away from the debates about who it could be. I tried my best not to think about it and just let the surprise hit me as any good surprise should. But Echo? MY ECHO!? You son of a bitch! You lousy, low down, good for nothin', slime slurping, egg headed, Spidey demasking, 5'4" son of a bitch! Not Echo. You hear me? NOT ECHO!!!!

*Sigh*

I love Echo. I believe I'm one of the few. Others see her as a cheap Taskmaster rip-off with boobs. Some hate her because she took over Daredevil's title for 6 months leaving the man without fear nowhere to be seen. Personally, I fell in love with her when I first saw her. She was perfect. She was everything Daredevil was, and everything he wasn't. I thought that of all the women to have ever come into his life, she was the one. Then she tried to kill him which made me believe even more that they were meant for each other. Smile

And Vision Quest? Her story that was told in the pages of Daredevil under David Mack? It's the last comic story I can recall that ever threated to bring me to tears. Only two comics in memory have ever made me cry. The Death of Superman and Vision Quest. Maya Lopez was a character whom I felt I'd gotten to know and understand and appreciate. And at the end of Vision Quest I was left with the impression that she was hanging up the tights and giving up the life.

But she's Ronin. She's fucking RONIN!!!

A pat of me should be happy that she's active again and will be featured in a book that I plan on buying anyway. But her coming back as Ronin destroys that feeling of clousre I got at the end of Vision Quest. It undoes everything that tremendous story did for me. Seeing her in the pages of New Avengers just leaves me so sad. I'm worried that a character who'd, in my mind's eye, had faded gracefully...is going to be brought back and ruined in the name of "change is good".

Damn you Bendis. Damn you......

  eXiles: World Tour
Posted by: The Truth - 12-03-2005, 09:13 PM - Forum: 1407 Graymalkin Lane... - Replies (1)

Current Arc: New Universe

What's thats show called? God I love the 80's? Now, I know this might upset some of you but I was still a snot nosed little kid in the 80's and as such, have no knowledge of the New U. I will say however that seeing the Exiles on a world that has absolutely nothing to do with the Marvel U I know and love is a strange, new, and exciting experience. Justice? Starbrand? The Paranormals? Great Googa Mooga! I haven't marked out over characters like this since....ok...since the last issue of Captain Atom...but still.

For those of you who don't know, the Exiles: World Tour is shaping up to be a 1 1/2 year story arc in which everyone's favorite reality jumpers revisit several of Marvel's other universes including the New Universe, home of Justice and Starbrand, the 2099 Universe, which means the original one and not the one from last year's one shots, the universe of Squadron Supreme (Nighthawk, Hyperion, And Power Princess!?), Future Imperfect, and Heroes Reborn (Go-go Mecha Leifeld Wink ).

With two new characters all but confirmed to be joining the group, and with Proteus running about causing mayhem, the World Tour is so far shaping up to be quite the ride.

It's started off with yet another trip to Marvel 616. Except this time the team arrived during the House of M. Currently they're rubbing elbows with Starbrand in the New U, with the last few pages of issue 73 dropping some rather huge hints towards who their next new member will be. Issue 74 will wrap up their trip to the New Universe and should introduce ******** as the new teammate, while the next few issues after that take them to 2099 where reportedly ****** ****** (a fan favorite I might add) will come aboard.

Exiles has, since the beginning been one of my favorite Marvel books and I have to say, if you're not currently reading it...do yourself a favor. Don't wait for the trades to come out....go get the issues now. I'm not knocking trades at all, and will admit that a series like Exiles probably reads better as a trade....but with stories like these you need to have those cliffhanger endings every once in a while, and you need to get on the bandwagon as soon as possible if for no other reason but to avoid hearing about it second hand before your trades arrive.
